The Apartment — What We Were Looking For

Letter Two

When we first decided to look for a place in Lanzarote, we actually had no idea what we were looking for.

We visited houses, apartments, old galleries, even abandoned hotels. Every place had something interesting about it, but none of them felt quite right.

With every viewing, our vision became a little clearer. We weren't looking for four walls – we were looking for a space that could inspire the people living in it. A place that feels calm, open, and leaves room for ideas.

As we kept returning to Lanzarote, another thought slowly arose.

The biggest source of inspiration is the island itself. The volcanic landscape. Its architecture. Places that make you stop and look a little longer. You come home with new ideas, fresh perspectives, and a different kind of energy.

What we couldn't find was a home designed for what comes next. A place where those ideas could settle, grow, and slowly turn into conversations, projects, or simply a different way of living.

One of the things we love most about Lanzarote is the incredible architecture and the many thoughtfully designed places across the island. Beautiful boutique hotels, remarkable apartments, spaces that celebrate the landscape in extraordinary ways.

Our idea just happened to be a little different.

We weren't creating a place for a vacation. We wanted to create a home.

A place where you can stay long enough for first impressions to become something deeper. Where mornings are for focused work, afternoons for exploring the island, and evenings for long conversations around the table. A place where creativity and everyday life naturally exist alongside each other.

When we walked into what is now EL SALÓN, something finally clicked.

Originally designed as an architect's office, it already felt like a space made for thinking. The generous open living area, the organic floor plan, the original columns that quietly shape the space, and the large glass block windows flooding the apartment with soft daylight weren't things we wanted to change. They were the reason we fell in love with it.

The apartment had something we had been looking for all along: space. Space to live, to work, to gather, and to let the experience of the island continue once you come back inside.

That idea has guided every decision we've made since. Opening up the kitchen, choosing natural materials, and building a palette inspired by the island are all part of creating a home that supports the life happening inside it – a place where it's easy to focus, create, work, and simply feel at home.

Looking back, I think that's what we had been searching for all along.

Not simply a beautiful apartment in Lanzarote, but a home designed for what comes next:

A place where everything the island sets in motion can continue to grow inside.
